The International Institute of Sports Management (IISM) on Monday published India's first book on sports psychology.

This book is part of a series that aims to provide students with industry information.

Mugdha Bavare, a well-known sports psychologist, launched his book 'Sports Psychology' on Friday. The book, published under the brand of Popular Prakashan, is the second in a series of publications being launched by IISM as part of its Knowledge Series.

Mr Vinit Karnik, Head – Sports, Esports & Entertainment at GroupM South Asia, penned the first book in the series, 'Business of Sports: The Winning Formula for Success', which was published in June 2022.

IISM, created by former India international cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni, has been a pioneer in Sports Management Studies for the past 12 years.

"We are delighted to present Mugdha Bavare's groundbreaking work on sports psychology, which represents a key milestone in Indian sports education. "With this publication, we hope to provide invaluable insights to both athletes and enthusiasts, fostering a deeper understanding of the mental aspect of sports performance," Mr Kulkarni stated. "As a former cricketer and the creator of IISM, I recognize the critical role that psychology plays in athletic success. Mugdha's expertise, along with her experience dealing with great athletes, has resulted in a comprehensive resource that will surely improve the quality of sports psychology education in India."

The book is available for purchase at your local bookstore. Those who are interested can also order the book online.

Ms Bavare, the author, was happy to be able to share his knowledge with the larger community. "I am really delighted to have contributed to the field of sports psychology with the publication of this book in partnership with IISM. Drawing on my extensive experience working closely with great athletes, I hope this book will serve as a guide, assisting athletes in harnessing the power of their brains to reach optimal performance on the field," said Ms Bavare. "With this book, I hope to simplify the complexities of sports psychology and encourage players to reach their greatest potential.

I appreciate the opportunity to share my knowledge and thoughts, and I hope that this resource will motivate a new generation of athletes to prioritize their mental health in pursuit of excellence."

Publisher Harsha Bhatkal was especially concerned with how the book's lessons may be applied in an Indian setting. "We've released sports books in the past. However, this is a one-of-a-kind concept in which the book serves as both a terrific read and a source of education. I am confident that everyone involved in sports will devour the book with enthusiasm."

In the following months, IISM will make historic announcements about new books on many facets of sports from an Indian perspective.
